Valençay Castle on Loire Valley, France

Château de Valençay

It’s one of the most beautiful châteaux of the Loire Valley and from what I noticed, also one of the most underrated.

There weren’t many visitors; the traveling agencies and the information centers don’t put it high on the “must see” lists, but, in my opinion, Valençay is well worth a visit if you are more a fan of Palaces and Châteaux than medieval constructions like Blois or Amboise.

Architecture

Built in Renaissance style during the 16th century, the château overlooks the Nahon Valley. It has a square entrance tower positioned in the center of the North façade, flanked by corner turrets, reminiscent of the north face of Chambord Castle

Nature

The castle is surrounded by a park with tall trees offering a refreshing shadow during hot summer days.

There is also some sort of Zoo with farm animals like goats and pigs. I also saw peacocks walking freely around the park.

A quite large wooden maze is there in the park and you can spend at least one hour getting lost in it.

Chenonceau Castle on Loire Valley, France

Among many other beautiful castles on Loire Valley in France, Chateau de Chenonceau is well worth a visit.

Built around the 13th century on the river Cher (a left tributary of the river Loire), Chenonceau Castle is also nicknamed “The castle of the Ladies” becausethroughout the history it was administrated and taken care of by women like Diane de Poitiers (the mistress of Henri II) and Catherine de Medici (the wife of Henri the II) who forced Diane de Poitiers to move out of the castle after the death of her husband.

NIGHT WALK at Chenonceau Castle

The Castle can be visited during day, but also during evening (“Night Walk”). I recommend the evening visit, because while walking through the illuminated gardens you’ll be enchanted with the most wonderful classical music of Arcangelo Corelli (an Italian Classic). The music is heard in every corner of the gardens: it’s relaxing, romantic and a unforgettable memory.

Chambord Castle on Loire Valley, France

It’s the largest castle on the Loire Valley and, in my opinion, the most beautiful as well! Château de Chambord, in France, is a fairytale come true!

Built in French Renaissance architecture, the castle has many little towers, a large surrounding field, stone walls and is a very popular tourist attraction.

Enjoy the pictures and have a wonderful day!
